The Gatecrasher by Sophie Kinsella

The Gatecrasher
by
by Sophie Kinsella aka Madeleine Wickham

Fleur Daxeny is beautiful, unscrupulous and has a large wardrobe of black designer suits. With the help of the Times announcements page she gatecrashes the funerals and memorial services of the wealthy, preying on rich, vulnerable men. She charms her way into their lives and onto platinum credit cards, takes what she can and moves swiftly on.

When Richard Favour, a dull but wealthy businessman meets Fleur at his wife's memorial service, he's bowled over. Gradually Fleur works her spell on Richard's reserved and stilted family - transforming their lives while she moves in on their wealth. She finds herself lingering longer than she meant to, becoming involved in the family - but as Fleur rifles though Richard's files, it becomes clear that she is not the only one after his money.

My View

I really enjoyed this book. What's great about it is that it is easy to read. I didn't like Fleur that much in the book but towards the end i did - it's a fast moving plot, with only 347 pages, so a quick easy read.

Theo Paphitis Enter the Dragon

Theo Paphitis
Enter the Dragon

Theo Paphitis' story is a remarkable one. A Cypriot immigrant, he battled with dyslexia, worked as a tea boy at Lloyd's brokers and had a first insight into retail by selling watches in London's West End. At 23 he founded his first company, but it was in 1995 that he took his biggest risk: taking control of the loss-making stationers Rymans. Taking over enterprises is why he was a natural choice for the BBC hit show Dragons Den.

My View
I love Dragons Den and the cast of Dragons Den, that's why i got this book. I really enjoyed some parts of the book like when he was growing up and the retail side of the book. I didn't so much enjoy when he took over Millwall Football Club and maybe it would have been better if it had more about his life and the new business that he's going into. Other then that it was a good read.

My time in woolworts.

This is my old store in Manford Way, Chigwell. I loved my time at Woolies - it was a good place to work until the end and we had a crap team - the old team was always the best. Giving a shout out to all the people I enjoyed working with: Ewan, Hayley, Kerry, Dave, Gareth, Andy, Jodie, Hall, Shuf, Paul.d, Paul.k, Paul.e, Maddy, Sandra, Jackie, Hazel, Laurence, George & Dan... sorry if i have forgotten anyone.

From left to right...
John, me, Dan, Gareth, Mr P, Jodie, Hall

I started working for Woolies when i was 16, as i got the job from when I did work experience at school. When i was 16 I had the job waiting for me and started working on Sunday on the till or just filling the shelves. Then it was Sat & Sun doing the same thing, and when i finished college I worked during the week. I went from a sales assistant to an STL, then training AM, before i fell pregnant and the company went bust. It was a sad time with it going as it holds so many memories for me.

I still meet up with a few of the Woolies lot, down the pub for drinks and see what we're all up to. Dave works in a primary school now, Hayley works in an office up London, Jodie in an office as well, Kerry - not 100% sure what he does (but some sort of security thing) - and me a housemummy. Our lives have all gone different ways but we still remain mates.

Best things that happened in Woolies:

  • It's where i met Mr P and now we have our little Woolies baby
  • Kerry met Hayley and have been going out for a few years
  • Made some good mates
  • Never forget the night fill (it was a lot of fun)
  • And i enjoyed myself
  • My nephew set up 'Save Woolworths' for us on facebook, that became well known online and in the papers.

RIP WOOLIES - YOU MAY BE GONE FROM OUR HIGH STREETS BUT WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU :-)

Happy 1st Birthday.

Happy 1st Birthday to my blog

It's been a year since i started this blog and i have loved it. Putting my goals and hopes on here has helped me along the road to achieving them.

I am glad i have done this. I started to do it when i was at home with Little Miss P. I was bored and didn't really know what i wanted out of life, not knowing really who i was anymore. So this blog has helped me find myself again and find a new love for the things I forgot, like reading and working towards my life goals.

So a Big Happy Birthday and thank you,

Mr P

This is Mr P, my hubby, my Rock

I would be lost without him and i hope he would be a little lost without me too. We met when we worked together in Woolies, when i was 16 and Mr P was 21. We were both seeing other people at the time then ended it with our partners and got together.

Now we have been married for 3 years with our little girl. I'm not saying that our marriage is the best and that we get along all the time - we have our ups and down like everyone else, we just work through it and the three of us work as a little team to make sure we're all happy.
