Thyroid issues ~ CT scan

CT SCAN ( Saturday 30th October)

Well with this one there is a whole story.

So I was due to have the scan, but every time I asked about it from previous appointment I just got told it’s still waiting to be cleared to be able to do it,  then I finally got thought to some in the ENT department. Who say there are two doctors and one of them wants you to have and the other said you don’t need to.I was ok with that but when they decided If I can have the scan it can’t be over the October half term as I am going away and I gave them the dates I was going away.

Then the next day I had a call saying can I come in the next day and have my scan , to this I said no and then they started to get funny with me and kind blame me for not being to come in, and this point I explain that I was going away, and that only yesterday I got told what was going on and passed on the dates that I couldn’t do. He sounded if more worked up and said fine can you do next Saturday which I say I could, it was just a little bit wired I thought.

Now on to the scan, my scan was due at 3.30 and I had to be there at 3 o’clock so half an hour before my appointment, I can’t eat four hours beforehand but I’m still allowed to drink water well it did say sip water . When I turned up there was about four of us kind of turning up all at the same time. Out of the four I was the second one in. And the only one that had to get out of my top and bra and put on one of them horrible robe things on.

When it was my turn to get called in , I got walked into this big white room with the Machine in the middle. Four squares on the ceiling has a kind of light blue sky picture on it, and that is where you lay down on the Machine and looked up and that’s what you see.

When it came to putting the needle in not going to lie this bit actually hurts, The needle is bigger than a blood test needle, and it was just very uncomfortable,  she did explain to me that when they put the whatever it is they put in my body to show up my thyroid and lungs, I would get a very warm feeling across my body and feel like I need to pee, and that definitely happened that was a very weird feeling. But as soon as it came it went.

When in the machine it tells you when to breathe and hold your breath I wasn’t expecting that so the first time it happened it kind of shocked me and I don’t think I did it right, but after the first one of that I think I’ve got the hang of it. It’s weird because the machine is actually quite noisy, and you’re in this room on your own, and the machine is just going in circles around you. Obviously is taking the photos it needs for what they are looking for but it’s actually quite daunting for someone who hasn’t had one of these before.  Overall I was in the machine for about 10 to 5 minutes. So it actually wasn’t long at all.

I’m writing this the day after my CT scan and my arm is still kind of aches from where the needle went in and it has come up in a bit of a bruise. Other then that I am feeling fine and doing everything that I normal do.
